How’s your Halloween?

ColorLines gave some tips to readers about racist Halloween costumes to avoid. Included in the discussion — Pocahotties, Dirty Geishas, and Super Sexy Asian Girl.

I have to say that I’ve seen fewer trickle-down of skimpy and sexy costumes for small girls this year than last year (when Target carried a “kitty” costume for toddlers that looked like a Playboy waitress outfit). Maybe  princesses are taking over for younger girls? But when they get to the tweens; watch out! Sexy vampire fairies seem to be a big hit for 2010.

For small boys this year, muscle costumes seem to be the big thing — Wolverines, Supermen, and Spidermen with big bulges everywhere. (Which, on Spiderman, looks kind of odd to me, because I don’t remember Spidey being that muscular, as superheroes go.)

At our house we’ve got a two year-old “mean witch” and a four year-old “monster robot” (which we are still finishing!). How about you?
